Crunchy Sparkling Starbursts
Add some pop, bang, and shimmer to your 4th fare!

Crunchy Sparkling Starbursts and Fireworks Juice!

Want to add some pop, bang, and shimmer to your 4th fare? Make Rice Crispy treats, then use star cookie cutters to make stars. Shake on red and blue sprinkles to make your starbursts shine! Don’t forget the drinks! Dip the rim of a clean glass into strawberry syrup, then into blue or red Pop Rocks. Fill the glass with a patriotic-colored juice, then drink for a firework frenzy…in your mouth!

Patriotic Birdfeeder
Why not feed the birds with patriotic style?

Naturally Patriotic!

Recycle a clean, used, plastic bottle by asking an adult to poke two holes in its lid, two holes near the bottom, and a large window above one of the bottom holes. Thread yarn through the holes in the lid and tie a strong knot to hang your birdfeeder. Then push a stick through the two bottom holes, paint your feeder with stars and stripes, and fill up with birdseed!

Things That Take the Bang Out of Fireworks

Watching beautiful rockets explode in the summer night sky? Super cool! Getting hurt by fireworks, like thousands of kids each year? Uh…not so cool. And while watching the BOOMS! might be fun, nothing takes the BANG out of a good American celebration like someone getting hurt. Stay Safe!

DO:

Have a responsible adult light all fireworks on a sturdy surface outdoors

Have a hose or fire extinguisher on hand

Keep sparklers away from kids under 6

DON’T:

Run with sparklers

Make homemade fireworks

Stand too close to lit fireworks

Point fireworks at anything but the starry night sky

Mt. Rushmore is only ONE way to get familiar with the faces of freedom
Check out this cool gov. site for another way!

Presidential…Sweet!

Think you know the faces of freedom well enough to spot em’ if you could travel back in time? I did, until I looked at this cool slideshow of all 49 U.S. Presidents…who is that? A President? Who is Ruthford B. Hayes? Virtually view the amazing men who helped shape America here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/slideshows/presidents/.

A Step Up from the Neighborhood Fireworks Display

When the sun settles at the end of a long patriotic celebration, we want to be wowed by a fireworks display. After seeing a few city’s local 4th of July fireworks shows, as well as the acclaimed Disney World Fireworks display, and even the Epcot fireworks, which had previously topped the charts in my book, they looked like weak glow-sticks compared to the all-out bash put on by a certain city in America each 4th we visited recently.

What I didn’t know is that so many fireworks could be set off in one night, in one time, at one place. The jet black night sky turned a twilight blue in the explosive glow. What I do know is that this is the best fireworks display I’ve ever seen in my life. Not bad for being free, too. And while I’ll admit that Disney and Epcot have to put on their shows almost every night, and this is once a year, Disney and Epcot can’t hold a candle (or a stick of TNT) to this spectacular celebration set off from a barge in an American bay. If you want to be cured of your need for fireworks frenzy, check out this vid. Happy 4th of July!

Put on your sunglasses; this city's turned the 4th of July night sky as bright as dawn with it's fiery plumes.
