By Amazing Kids! Reporter Matthew Barker, age 12

Kids can make a difference. By reducing greenhouse gases, you can save energy and help reduce global warming. By learning about global warming and helping others understand the issues, you can make a difference! Here are some things you can do every day:

Walk or ride your bike to school, take the bus, or carpool

Recycle (paper, plastic and glass)

Reuse things when possible

Reduce waste

Drink tap or filtered water (instead of bottled)

Avoid plastic bottles

Turn lights and computers off when not in use

Use cloth bags (instead of paper or plastic)

Ask your school to provide recycling bins

Here are more ways you can help reduce global warming:

Encourage your school to install solar panels

Plant lots of trees

Write a letter to your local newspaper about ways your community can get involved

Let companies know you care about global warming

Get books about climate change at your library

Talk to your friends, parents and teachers about global warming

You may even have some of your own ideas on ways to help our planet. Now you have some ideas, you are ready to start doing your part to help our planet!

Amazing Kids! Adds Kids’ Movie Critic Perry Chen, Age 10, to Magazine Staff: Award-winning movie reviewer to write new “Amazing Kids Movie Reviews” Column

November 23, 2010; Seattle, WA - Amazing Kids! (amazing-kids.org) announced today that 10 year old Perry Chen, an award-winning movie reviewer and budding animator/filmmaker, has joined the all-kids staff of the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine (mag.amazing-kids.org), an award-winning kid-created publication recently named one of the Top 24 “Great Web Sites for Kids” by the American Library Association under the category of “Writing By Kids.”

Perry is the latest Amazing Kids! Reporter and columnist to join the publication, and will serve as the columnist for the magazine’s new “Amazing Kids Movie Reviews” column. A veteran movie reviewer whose work was recently spotlighted in an article in Variety, (October 22, 2010), Perry is known for his insightful film reviews on his website “Perry’s Previews” (perryspreviews.com), in which he uses his one-of-a-kind starfish rating system.

Perry will join the growing staff of kid columnists, reporters and editors who contribute to the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine. Read by kids, parents and educators from around the world, the online publication is widely recognized for both its educational and inspirational value, not only for fostering kids’ creativity, critical thinking and love of learning, but for inspiring kids to “Dream Big,” so they may one day realize their own amazing potential.

In addition to his kids movie reviews, Perry will also serve as an Amazing Kids! Reporter in the field and will report on Entertainment-related events for the Amazing Kids! Magazine. Perry’s first assignment will be covering the Animation industry’s Annie Awards at next year’s Annie Awards ceremony.

Amazing Kids’ founder and president Alyse Rome remarks, “We are so delighted to have Perry join our team as our first-ever resident movie reviewer for the Amazing Kids! Magazine! Perry has an excellent reputation for selecting only the best, most positive movies for kids; as such, his movie reviews in our new Amazing Kids Movie Reviews column will fit perfectly with the mission and focus of Amazing Kids!”

Rome adds: “We believe Perry’s new column in the Amazing Kids! Magazine will serve as a unique guide for today’s kids and parents in their search for positive, age-appropriate movies with a good message and positive values for kids. Though there are plenty of adults reviewers today telling kids what movies they should watch, or what products they might like, all the reviews featured in the Amazing Kids! Magazine are done by the kids themselves, for kids; as such, they offer a unique perspective from a kid’s point of view which is not easily found elsewhere. After all, who best would know what kids might like, than the kids themselves?” asks Rome.

In addition to his writing duties for Amazing Kids!, Perry has been selected to be a judge in first-ever Amazing Kids!’ “Write a Kids’ Movie Review!” Contest, for kids and teens under the age of 18. Known as one of the top websites for kids contests, Amazing Kids! plans to kick off the contest before the end of the year and is currently seeking sponsors from the Entertainment Industry. Perry, who through his work has won the hearts and friendship of several well-known professional movie critics, will be helping assist Amazing Kids! in selecting an “All-Star” panel of professional movie critics to assist with the judging.

November 4, 2010; Seattle, WA – Amazing Kids! is proud to announce their newest addition to their youth reporting staff for the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine (amazing-kids.org). 17 year old Genevieve L’Esperance (“Gen”), the host and co-producer of GenINCtv, and a self-described “techonomist,” will be adding her unique perspective and technical expertise to the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine, a kid-created publication which helps foster kids’ creativity and love of learning while inspiring them to “Dream Big,” so they may one day realize their own amazing potential.

The tech-savvy teen will begin reporting for the new Amazing Kids!’ “SciTech Kids” column, featuring technology and science-focused articles, videos and tech product reviews all written by kids and teens like Gen. Her unique knowledge and experience working as a young woman in the technology field helps her serve as a role model for a growing number of girls worldwide who are eager to explore the fields of science and technology as potential future career paths for them. “We know how important it is to have other young people that children can look up to and emulate. When kids see how the passion and hard work by someone “just like them” leads to innumerable opportunities and the possibility of success in such exciting and rewarding fields, they begin to believe in themselves and strive to achieve their own goals,” said Alyse Rome, the founder and visionary of the children’s non-profit organization Amazing Kids!, and the publisher of the Amazing Kids! Online Magazine on the Amazing-Kids.org award-winning website.

“What is equally important besides Gen’s own ambitions is her drive to help other children realize their potential. This past summer, rather than choosing to simply ‘take it easy’ during her summer break, Gen was busy teaching young girls how to program and have fun while doing it,” added Alyse. “We are really looking forward to working with Gen, as her experience in the tech industry will enhance our ability to explore the many issues surrounding the increased presence of technology in our children’s lives. We are especially interested in exploring how we can help promote a more personally and socially-responsible use of technology among our kids and teens while keeping them safe and healthy.”

Genevieve comments: “I started in technology with the goal of helping to open a girls’ tech training center in Bangladesh. I soon realized I had to first help children here at home. They too need to be encouraged to understand the limitless opportunities, both social and economic, that derive from technology as a career.” Genevieve, whose list of technical certifications she’s achieved continues to grow, adds: “We don’t all have to be coders. There are so many technology options in fields like engineering and medicine, options that could help us find a cure for cancer or help us in building greener homes that will help restore global environmental balance. I want all young people to see the bigger picture and to own the future, knowing what has to be done.”

Genevieve, a Microsoft Certified Professional at age 15 and a Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist at 16, started her own web channel in early 2010 and has been a vlogger reporting from CES, The Imagine Cup US finals and in July was one of only 12 a Student to Business Delegates chosen from around the world to represent all students at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner conference in Washington this past July. While there, she solo taught 56 girls to program in Small Basic. Gen is an avid reader and is becoming, more and more, a requested teacher and speaker. She will be a featured Amazing Kid! of the Month this fall as she takes on her reporting role for Amazing Kids!.

About Amazing Kids!:

Founded in 1998, Amazing Kids! (http://amazing-kids.org) is a children’s educational non-profit organization and award-winning website dedicated to inspiring excellence in children, while helping them to realize their amazing potential and launch their dreams. A recent recipient of the American Library Association’s Top 24 “Great Websites for Kids” for 2010, the Amazing Kids! website supports kids’ creativity, literacy, global awareness and understanding, and achievement through hosting ongoing creative contests, publishing the award-winning, kid-created Amazing Kids! Online Magazine, and connecting kids with letter-writing pals from around the world through their Amazing Kids! PenPals program.

Amazing Kids! president Alyse Rome founded the educational website to provide enriching educational experiences for kids outside of the regular classroom environment, as well as to provide kids with access to inspiring stories (the “Amazing Kids! of the Month” stories) about their peers who are accomplishing amazing achievements. Alyse believes that all kids have amazing potential, and dreams of a world in which all children’s amazing gifts are supported, and their dreams realized. She believes the best way this can be achieved is through collaboration with others, including caring adult mentors, other non-profits and educational institutions, as well as sponsorship and support from well-respected, active corporate citizens and foundations who share Amazing Kids!’ long-held commitment to children and their future. The organization encourages people interested in learning more or supporting their work to reach out and connect through their website, amazing-kids.org and their Facebook and Twitter pages: amazingkids.

She had so much fun designing a card! I hope she wins but even if she doesn’t, the card she made meant a lot to me! That was a nice contest and I’m glad they put info about Amazing Kids! on the KFC website. You do so much for kids in this country and other countries and get such little recognition!”

“I met with Whole Foods and the meeting went well. They agreed to have a “Remmi Corner” in the store-openly displaying our partnership. They were impressed with her Amazing Kid! of the Month Award-they even mentioned it should be on the marketing poster.”

“This is such an honor for us. Oh……….what a great job you have done with Remmi’s story. Alyse, I have forwarded the information to Deedra and Melanie-they will be doing a story on her-I will let you know when it is published. Every opportunity to spread the word on Amazing Kids-I will do—————we are so excited to be part of the monthly magazine. Thanks and let us know if you need anything else from us!”

-“Hi Alyse-do not have any details as of yet but the Associate Producer of Rachel Ray has contacted us/Remmi about doing a segment. Thought you would want to know-I will try to find out how they heard of her-I am sure is it is the AK affect!”

“Alyse-When (Apple) responded back to me (about how they found out about Remmi)-it was Amazing Kids!!!!!! We really need to get some highlights going on your organization!! What great things you do!! “

“Hi Alyse-Yesterday was surreal-only way to describe it. An Apple Exec came to the shoot as well. They were awesome with Remmi. The Apple film crew brought the best out of Remmi. I found out the event in Dallas on the 21st is a 3 day education leadership summit that is invitation only. The level of educators is presidents of major universities and school districts. All I can say is Remmi is in very good company. She is the youngest and the only one in grade school.”

“I thank my lucky stars and I thank you-without Amazing Kids!, we would not be in this position. If I got this right-the moderator is now the new president of Dreamworks-he recently left Pixar. I think we will have some good networking opportunities.

“My name is Rosa Ruvalcaba and I am co-producing 6 videos for Apple Education (Apple Computers). We are having a big education leadership institute in Texas in April and we’re looking for students (k-college) who are finding creative ways to learn and share with or without school.

“I saw your website and the wonderful work Remmi is doing with her team. I would like to chat more about including Remmi in a short profile video for Apple as well as flying her to Dallas for the event to discuss her love for learning and sharing. It will be a great exposure opportunity for you, too.

“I am happy to inform you that Remmi (February 2010 Amazing Kid! of the Month) has been selected from a long list of WOW students to be profiled at the Dallas Apple education summit next month. She will be asked to participate in a short six student panel (moderated by a Pixar Animation Studios Faculty) to discuss topics like creativity, learning, technology, human responsibility, social media, and sharing. Remmi has been identified as a learner who thinks beyond the traditional parameters of school and we would love to hear her thoughts.

Again, we are looking forward to meeting Remmi and helping share her SUPER COOL story.”

My name is Chad Overman and I am the Producer/Director for Motivational Productions, the nation’s leading multimedia character education program. I had the privilege of coming across an article on Remmi on the Amazing Kids website this morning as I was researching inspirational stories of young people making a difference. Our production team is currently researching real life stories for our nationwide character film entitled “Fit Together”. This film will encourage young people to see the importance of caring about the kinds of food they eat and the kinds of activities they’re involved in. I’ve been very selective in my research of story subjects for possible inclusion. When I came across Remmi’s story and watched one of her videos, I was convinced that she would fit perfectly into our film this year. Motivational Productions is a non-profit organization that presents an all-digital multimedia presentation to roughly 4 million students each year. Our purpose is to encourage and inspire young people to make wise choices as they are faced with difficult issues such as drugs/alcohol, violence, and racism. I’m writing you to let you know that we are interested in featuring a 5-6 minute story on Remmi, her show, and her powerful message to the youth on the importance of pursuing a healthy lifestyle in next year’s nationwide film Fit Together. We hope to help spread Remmi’s show and message even further than it already is, and we’re all the way down in Texas. :^)

In Great Appreciation,

Already in progress is a newsletter to parents talking about the Amazing Kids website. People love to hear about the neat things that kids can do. I love helping kids to realize how amazing that they actually are.

You have done something great. You have opened the door to literacy, history, and self-esteem (all through the arts.) Wow! I am proud to be a part of it.

All I can say is that my students are on fire to become better writers themselves. Thank you! Thank You! Alyse, Please keep us posted on the Book Project.”

“Hey I read the story about the kids in Hawaii… what a great project! Isn’t it amazing how children can get such a sense of accomplishment when teachers and adults tell them they can do it? That’s why this website is so important… some kids who DONT have anyone telling them they can do stuff will end up reading your stories and realize that if these kids can do it, then they can too. That’s the point, right? Right! What a tremendous service you’re providing! I’m so proud of you. Keep going.

Your friend who thinks you’re wonderful,”

Alyse-

What a gift you are… do you realize how very valuable you are to our society? You, my new friend are a rare gem… someone to be reckoned with because you WILL affect change… and I am so proud of you.

Don’t change anything that you’re doing. When you get tired, you must call me, and I will strengthen you. I will remind you how very much the children who are here on this earth need you…and that in some ways, the ones who are not here yet need you even more… because you hold their future in your passion and optimism and hope for their parents who are

but small children today.

You and I…we are like-minded. We are doing our individual jobs with the resources that we have at hand, and it may seem like we are engaged in different “activities”, but the end product of our efforts is the same. How marvelous to have a sister in the fight… because you are indeed that.

Thank you for your kind spirit and compassion. Thank you for your tears and care. I share these same emotions for you and our dream. I will join you in the fight…I promise- I’m already engaged in the battle. I will share my resources with you.. my contacts, my friends, my ideas..whatever I have because you are accomplishing what I would wish for my own children if I were not able to be on this earth with them.

You are a “God-parent” of sorts for all the children…. and your efforts need to continue. You have a strong future and there are many lives that will change because of you. A long time from now… long after the vehicle of flesh and sinew which carries your spirit has been buried, great leaders will remember a spark named Alyse which lit the flame of their lives. And they will be good parents. And they will raise good citizens. And they will bring yet more change for good to this place- this heaven on earth that we share. This I know for sure.

It’s not easy to do it alone. It’s not easy to call out into the darkness and wait for someone to hear you and answer. It’s not easy to worry about that which is hidden in tomorrow. It’s not easy to face the terrible monsters that would see you fail, and not crumble in fear.

And you….you stand fast and determined, willing to face it all. I am so so so proud of you. You are a Troubador!

Success is yours. I don’t know how we’ll do it, but we will. We will find a way so that your dreams are realized because there are many great things that need to happen by people who are only learning to tie their shoes this week. Some are still in diapers. We must give them safe passage into their time of coming. It’s our job. We will find them and we will change them. We will teach them and we will inspire them. And we will surround them with others JUST LIKE THEM because tomorrow things will be harder than they are today, and these children will need each other.

Fear not. The time is coming. I promise. Tell me how to help you, and I am there.

Yours

Amazing Kids!, what a terrific idea. A positive source of direction and support for children can only be good.

I found your site while looking for Wayne Fromm, the inventor and one of your Amazing Mentors. As you can see from the attached article, Wayne has always been involved in helping others.

Amazing Kids!, good luck with your project. With people like Wayne on your team, there’s no doubt you’ll be successful.

“Hi

I run preventative life-skills education programmes for children aged 5-13 years old in Palmerston North, New Zealand. I was wondering if I am able to print and use materials from the website to help to teach the children to give their best in every area of their lives, and to use their gifts and talents to help other to do the same…”

“Our magazine is a vision that God gave us of a magazine that is filled with inspirational stories. I sat down at my computer this morning to start to write an article entitled “Is youth wasted on the young?” I went to the web to search for amazing stories about older people who are now doing youthful feats (ie jumping out of planes, abseiling down canyons etc), thinking that I would write an inspiring article about why you are never too old to do something youthful. Then I found your article in Amazing Kids! and I realised that perhaps instead of featuring older people trying to rekindle their youth, maybe God was trying to show me that there are young people doing extraordinary things that are inspiring and that we should be featuring these.

So, that brings me to why I am writing to you. I thought that I would write to you and ask if we could feature your story and some of your artwork in our magazine. We have no funds at this stage to pay for the article – this will be our very first edition, but we would be happy to run an advertisement at no cost that features your website address and contact details. Would you be willing to let us share your story with others?”

I stumbled across your website quite by chance and I was really encouraged by what you are doing. I read your idea for a TV program and I just wanted to feed back to you that I had the same idea about 12 years ago and have been sitting on it waiting for the right opportunity.

Of the time that we prayed,

My name is Cassie and I found your organization through the web. I am very interested in becoming a mentor. I grew up in a small town in Washington state with a lot of hardships due to my family circumstances. But against all the odds, I was somehow determined to accomplish what I wanted to.

I really believe that I have endured a lot and life would have been much easier for me had I had a mentor to keep me motivated. Instead I was left to do it on my own and fortunately I still came out ahead.
