Zach Veach – Amazing Young Race Car Driver on a Mission to Save Lives
By Shamala Pulugurtha, A.K.O.M. Writer and Researcher

Quotes of the Month:
“Race car driving is not about just driving fast (though I do love that aspect of racing)! There’s a lot of work involved with being a race car driver. I have to stay in shape because handling the race car can be pretty tough physically especially on street and road courses and at speeds well over 100 mph. I work out every day—usually running, biking, weights or boxing. ”
“Every text and phone call can wait—it’s not worth risking a life! ”
Zach Veach, Age 15
Race Car Driver and Founder of Ziggy’s Teen Safe Driving Campaign .
July 2010 Amazing Kid! Of the Month:
Fifteen year old Zach Veach describes himself as “any other kid chasing his dream.” He loves remote control race cars, playing with friends, and training his German Shepherd, Annie.
But unlike most teenagers, Zach has been named one of CNN’s “Intriguing People.” He is an auto racing driver competing in the USF2000 Championship Series, an important open-wheel stepping stone to a career in the IZOD IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500. He is authoring a book and, he is working hard to educate teens and others against the dangers of texting while driving.
Read more about Zach and be inspired to reach for your dreams, while learning the importance of helping to make your family’s car a “No Phone Zone!”
